Glamorous Waheeda Rehman, the unforgettable Indian Beauty, Bollywood actress in her heyday (Extreme right) with RK Laxman (Cartoonist) and Dev Anand (left).

Her first initial appearance in a Hindi film was in CID (1956). Later, she was seen in a series of successful films includingPyaasa (1957), 12 O’Clock (1958), Kaagaz Ke Phool (1959), Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam, Chaudhvin Ka Chand (1961). Her other notable works include Solva Saal (1958), Baat Ek Raat Ki (1962), Kohra (1964), Bees Sal Baad (1962), Guide(1965), Teesri Kasam, Mujhe Jeene Do (1966), Neel Kamal and Khamoshi (1969).

Evergreen Dev Anand passes away

Evergreen star Dev Anand, one of the icons of Indian cinema, died on Sunday after suffering a massive cardiac arrest in London. He was 88.

Dev Anand began his career with ‘Hum Ek Hain’ in 1946. However, he got his first big break with ‘Ziddi’ in 1948.The flamboyant star is also known for giving big hits like ‘Baazi’, ‘Guide’, ‘Jewel Thief’, ‘Johnny Mera Naam’, ‘Hare Rama Hare Krishna’, ‘CID’ and ‘Tere Mere Sapne’.

An era of Indian Cinema ended with the death of the legend.

 

Katrina again

Bollywood beauty Katrina Kaif has been named the Sexiest Woman in the World for the third year in a row, beating off competition from her contemporaries like Freida Pinto and Priyanka Chopra.

“I”m very happy that I have made it to the top of Eastern Eye”s list again. England is off course a very special place to me and I think it”s very sweet to be voted the sexiest by them. I just want to thank everyone for the support,” said the 26-year-old actress.

The list was calculated on the basis of the most photographed women in the world and the most in-demand with film producers and fans. ‘Although Bollywood heroines dominated the top 10, the list for 2010 included stunning beauty pageant winners, top actresses from around the world, pop stars and TV personalities. That is why Katrina should be deservedly proud of her amazing win,’ Eastern Eye showbiz editor Asjad Nazir said.

Priyanka Chopra narrowly missed out on the top spot by finishing second for the second year in a row. Pakistani actress Mehwish Hayat came eighth, a spot behind Kareena Kapoor.

Bipasha Basu occupied the third spot and Freida Pinto, India’s most popular export to Hollywood only managed a fourth position, while Lara Dutta rounded off the top five.

Katrina Kaif was born in Hong Kong to a Kashmiri father and British mother. She spent her childhood in Hawaii and later moved to England. She first came to the notice of filmmaker Kaizad Gustad while she was modelling for a jewellery campaign in London and that led to her break in Bollywood in the film ‘Boom’.

The beauty of Katrina can be enjoyed in the song “Sheila ki Jawaani” in Tees Maar Khan movie. At the end of the year of 2010, Katrina has put fire on the screen. The song is the most sexiest, seductive and can be voted as  item song of the year. Click here for the the song. enjoy it :

PC most kissable – ‘Fantasy’

‘Desi girl’ Priyanka Chopra has beaten off competition from fellow Bollywood beauties Aishwarya Rai and Kareena Kapoor to bag the title of the most kissable star.

The 28-year-old actress who became an instant pin-up with her turn in a gold bikini for ”Dostana” topped the survey conducted by men’s magazine ”Fantasy”.

‘It was a close run but Priyanka Chopra’s bee-stung lips made her a perfect candidate to top this list,’ said the magazine about the winning candidate. Aishwarya came second while Kareena Kapoor grabbed the third spot.

Bollywood”s favourite Bengali beauty Bipasha Basu came fourth and Katrina Kaif rounded off the top five.

We, Indians feel proud of Deepika Padukone who flew the flag for India high at Cannes film festival 2010, with a traditional Indian Sari. She is looking glamorous, stunningly beautiful in sari. While both Aishwarya and Mallika opted for Western dresses, the 24-year-old took the six yard route to style as she stepped out on the red carpet in a sari. when one is representing India in a very visible platform like the Cannes, gowns and elaborate western dresses do not really represent India. One should not only feel Indian, but also look Indian. Finaly bollywood at least has got a beauty with brain. Deepika was able to make the right choice in her first go itself , this makes her different from others in Bollywood. Deepika is the real ambassador of India.

Bollywood’s Anarkali is no more

Bollywood  lost one of its beautiful ladies. Bina Rai, the popular actress of the black and white era, passed away yesterday due to cardiac arrest.

Bina Rai was a first year student of Arts in the Isabella Theodore College’ of Lucknow in 1950, when she came across an advertisement for a talent contest, she participated in the contest where she won along with the 25,000 rupees in prize money a leading role in Kishore Sahu’s ‘Kali Ghata’ (1951), which became her film debut. Bina Rai stepped onto the screen in spite of strict reservations from her family. It is said that the actress had challenged her parents with a hunger strike and after they gave in to her wishes.

She is best remembered for her roles in ‘Taj Mahal’, ‘Ghoonghat’ and ‘Anarkali’. Interestingly, Bina Rai had won the Filmfare Best Actress Award, for which Madhubala was also nominated for ‘Mughal-e-Azam’.

According to a poll by a leading UK magazine, Katrina Kaif is the Sexiest Asian Woman of 2008, and John Abraham is the Sexiest Asian Man of 2008. Last year’s winner Bipasha Basu was pushed to second spot by Katrina Kaif. Katrina Kaif was voted ‘Sexiest Asian Woman Alive’ for 2008. The poll is an annual shindig run by The ethnic Asian magazine in the UK.

“I’m very surprised. I really didn’t expect this” – was the reaction of Katrina. This in spite of the fact that Katrina doesn’t think she’s sexy. “Maybe the way I define sexy is different from the general definitions. Maybe the people who have voted for me think differently from me… thank god for that! The beautiful thing about this world is that there’re so many different opinions.”

“The important thing is to enjoy this moment. I smile about these things. Such momentary honor makes me want achieve a lot better. They help me take the next step.”

Katrina Kaif was born and brought up in London to a Kashmiri Father and a British Mother. While her stint at modeling in London, she came to the notice of filmmaker Kaizad Gustad and bagged an important role in his film Boo. It was this move that encouraged Katrina to take on to acting in Bollywood as her full-fledged career and shift her base to Mumbai. Flooded with modeling assignments in Mumbai, she took onto the big screen with movies like ‘Sarkar’ and ‘Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya’.
