1-DSC05510-001KrishnaNagar is a small town of West Bengal state of India. KrishnaNagar got its name after the famous king called Raja KrishnaChandra who once ruled this region. He was responsible for the growth of creative arts and crafts of this region which got acclamation from the entire state of West Bengal. Raja (In Bengali, “Raja” means King) Krishna Chandra Roy was a patron of arts, including literature and music, and supported the production of clay dolls. 1221977_origKrishnaNagar, is famous for dolls made of clay. There is a area in Krishnanagar where all clay artists are settled and earn their livelihood by selling their dolls. The famous area is called “Ghurni”.

In 1728, Raja KrishnaChandra brought families of potters (Clay artists) from Dhaka and Natore (Now in Bangladesh) and settled them in Ghurni, then a village. Since then the artists produce exact replica of any object we have ever seen by our eyes. Open studios and shops of the artists comprise an important attraction for tourists.

There are some historically famous places of interest in Krishnanagar such as the Rajbari or the Palace of Raja KrishnaChandra. The main feature of this Rajbari (Palace) is the Goddess Durga temple which is situated in the courtyard of the royal palace.  During Durga Puja, the common people can actually witness the grandeur of the royalties.1-DSC05503This the portion of the palace where the Royal descendants are living ( visited 08 Jan 2016).
