Growing up, the highly regarded works of Rabindranath Tagore and Satyajit Ray took me to a city that seemed quite beyond the bounds of possibility to explore. From its mishti dois to Durga puja to Indian museum – Kolkata is considered as the “City of furious, creative energy”. Dating back to the 18thcentury, Calcutta was built by Job Charnock of the East India Company, although the city has been home to Indian settlements since decades. This capital of the West Bengal state still takes pride in its past – the plethora of hotels in Kolkata that exudes colonialism is a proof.
