SOME FACTS OF THE MISSION :

India is the first country to successfully send a Mars orbiter in it’s maiden attempt. and the first in Asia to reach the red planet.

India is the first country in the world to successfully enter the Mars orbit, after the Soviet Union, United States and Europe.

“The odds were stacked against us. Of the 51 missions, attempted across the world so far, a mere 21 had succeeded. But we have prevailed.”

Only NASA, the European Space Agency and the former USSR have been successful in their Mars missions. The first successful mission was by NASA’s Mariner 9 in 1971. The most recent failure was that of the Chinese Yinghuo-1 in 2011.

India now joins a small club of nations — the U.S., Russia and those in the European Space Agency – to have mastered interplanetary travel, giving it bragging rights over Asian rivals China and Japan whose attempts to get to Mars failed

The MOM or Mars Orbiter Mission was conceived, planned and implemented by ISRO on a shoestring budget of Rs. 450 crores or $ 67 mn, cheapest Mars Mission ever, which is less than the cost of Hollywood Movie “Gravity”.

I heard about this. What exciting news! India has set an example for everyone, that whenever people set their goals high and remain steadfast, they will find a way to achieve them.
